Satya Yuga, सत्य युग

Among the four famous yugas, Satyayuga, Sadyuga (Sat+yuga) or Kritayuga are considered the first. Although in the oldest Vedic texts there is no clear indication of the divisions of eras like Sadyug, Tretayug etc., yet a detailed presentation of the four yugas is found in the Smritis and especially in the Puranas.

The following details are available about Satyayuga in Puranas –

This era was born on Chaitra Shukla Chaitra Navratri Pratipada Sunday. Its magnitude is 17,28,000 years. In this era, four incarnations of Lord Matsya, Kurma, Varaha and Narasimha took place. There was an abundance of golden utensils during this period. Humans were extremely tall and had extremely long lives. The main pilgrimage site of this era was Pushkar.
In this era, knowledge, meditation or penance were predominant. Every subject was blessed with the accomplishment of his efforts, hence this is called “Kritya Yuga”. Dharma was quadrupedal (complete in all respects). The Dharmashastra of Manu was the only reliable scripture in this era. There is a specific opinion about this era in the Mahabharata that after Kaliyuga, this era will be re-established by Kalki (Vana Parva 191/1-14). In Van Parv 149/11-125) the varna of religion of this era is visible.

One day of Brahma is divided into 10,000 parts, called Charan:

All four eras
4th phase (1,728,000 solar years) Sadyuga
3rd phase (1,296,000 solar years) Treta Yuga
2nd phase (864,000 solar years) Dwapara Yuga
1st phase (432,000 solar years) Kali Yuga
