The region that is now Moldova has been home to many different peoples since the Stone Age, including the following tribes and groups:
Dacians: Occupied the region in antiquity
Bulgars, Pechenegs, Kipchaks, Tatars, and Mongols: Successive waves of groups that displaced the Dacians
Linear Pottery culture: Flourished from around 5500–4500 BC
Cucuteni–Trypillian culture: Flourished from around 5500–2750 BC
Yamna culture: Flourished from around 3600–2300 BC
