” Symbol of bravery of Sikarwar Rajputs of Bihar – Chainpur Fort ”
Sikarwar Rajputs of Bihar state are related to Rao Dhamdev Sikarwar’s grandson Lakshmanmal and second son Diwanram.
After leaving Sikri, Rao Dhamdev Sikarwar continued opposing the Mughal rulers by making Gahmar (Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh) his center. During this period, friendship increased between Shershah Suri and Sikarwars.
Under the leadership of Laxmanmal (Shanyamal), son of Rao Dhamdev’s second son Kunwar Diwanram, Sikarwars captured the areas of Buxar, Bhojpur, Bhabua, Rohtas, Hazaribagh, Palamu, Kaimur etc. on the banks of Karamanasa river. The center of which was the Chainpur fort. Lakshmanmal probably won this fort from King Maharath (1535 AD – 1585 AD), the ruler of Cherovansh (a branch of Nagavansh).
After King Lakshmanmal, King Shalivahan Sikarwar took his army and established his center by conquering areas like Jamui, Munger, Bhagalpur and Banka.
According to English historians Eliot and Bingley, there are 84 villages of Sikarwar Rajputs in Bihar, which are collectively called ‘Chaurasi’. There are 3 sub-branches of Sikarwar Rajputs found in Bihar –
(1) Gardahiya Sikarwar – These Sikarwars are the descendants of Rao Laxmanmal who are spread in 60 villages of areas like Bhojpur, Buxar, Bhabua, Rohtas and Gaya. Some of the major villages are – Musia, Chaprang, Nai Kot, Sagar Par, Godiari, Godsara, Sijhua Kala, Bagadhi, Purushottam Pur, Kanhua, Suryapura, Taraitha, Durban, Jujharpur, Puraini etc.
(2) Mountain Sikarwar – These Sikarwar are the descendants of Shalivahan Sikarwar, the second son of Laxman Mal. According to a belief, King Shalivahan had won the areas of Jamui, Munger and Bhagalpur by the grace of Goddess on Mandhar mountain of Bhagalpur region. Since then the descendants of Shalivahan started being called mountain Sikarwars. The major villages of this area are Vishnupur, Kaithatikar, Manjgani, Rajpur, Kaithel, Kushmaha and Baunsi.
(3) Bankaha/Banka Sikarwar – Other descendants of Shalivahan captured the combined areas of Banka and Bhagalpur, which later came to be known as Bankaha Sikarwar. Their main bases are Akodhi, Gamhariyah, Chhapra, Govardhanpur, Jamhuhar, Kanchanpur, Manikpur, Basti, Bhushua, Bhakudiyah etc.
(At present some areas also come in Jharkhand but we have kept only Bihar in the center.)
